Damn Weibo

What the hell is Weibo?

From opening a Twitter account in 2007 to now, I’ve used at least 10 different microblogging accounts. Among them, the one I’ve stuck with the longest is probably Tencent Weibo, which I started using in May this year and used continuously for 3 months.

Of course, if you count my personal microblog, this record is even longer, reaching 6 months.

I started tweeting just to follow the trend, then I messed around with follow5, but I never really got into Fanfou and Jiwai (though I did use fanfou.es and fanfou.de to tweet for a while).

Analyzing the Topics of 3 Debate Competitions Watched

An article discovered on Gmail, published on Bailanyuan in June 2009, now posted here. It essentially represents my basic approach and methods regarding the format of “debate competitions” as a way to discuss issues.

Without much preparation, 24 contestants debated for several hours across 3 debate competitions, while I spent those hours analyzing the topics. Below are some of my basic viewpoints, representing my current, spontaneous thoughts, without implying any other meanings.

School Firewall

This article was originally published on Bailanyuan in October and has been revised and reposted here.

Today, a small issue kept me busy for several hours, and I strongly suspect that the school’s firewall is to blame.

Here’s what happened:

I have several sub-sites installed on one of my VPSs, running platforms including but not limited to phpwind, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc. I remember that there were no issues for the past few months, but today, when I tried to create a new page on one of the sites and input the code for a Google Gadget, the page was immediately reset, meaning the connection to the server was lost, displaying an inability to connect, just like Twitter and other sites blocked by the GFW.

Some Reflections on Court Internship

This article was written during my internship in July 2009. Due to various reasons, it has been buried in Gmail until today when I decided to publish it.

I am an intern at XX Court. The following content is based solely on my personal views, and any references made are based on my own experiences, without any malicious intent.

I am already very grateful for the opportunity to intern at the court. Therefore, I do not expect any special treatment here; I only hope to learn something valuable.

3 Months Without a Haircut

“Our bodies, hair, and skin are received from our parents; we dare not damage them. This is the beginning of filial piety.” – The Classic of Filial Piety, Chapter 1: The Scope and Meaning

Unknowingly, it has been over three months since my last haircut. Normally, I trim my hair every one and a half to two months, and the longest I’ve gone without a haircut is about three months.

Graduation Thesis - Copyright of Independent Blogs

I admit that my attitude towards learning during university has not been very diligent. However, when it comes to my graduation thesis, I really want to do it well, as it marks the end of my student life.

From the beginning of choosing the topic until now, I have been wavering and wondering whether I should make a significant innovation, either in the topic selection or simply in the content.

Three Words and Two Slaps Speak of Jin Ping

I saw someone online summarizing some methods for memorizing poetry, but I always felt that they didn’t quite match what I remember.

For example, the poem “East, West, Three Waters, Peach Blossoms Red, Officialdom and Confucian Scholars Love Jin Ping. Three Words and Two Slaps Praise the Past and Present, Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, History Books, and the Western Chamber Mirror.” In my memory, it goes like this: “East, West, Three Waters, Peach Blossoms Red, Western Chamber, Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, Peony Pavilion. Past and Present, Eternal Life Mirror, Officialdom and Confucian Scholars, Three Words and Two Slaps Speak of Jin Ping.”

How to Write a Cover Letter?

There are traditionally two ways to apply for a job: attending job fairs and sending out resumes via mail.

Having recently attended several job fairs with unsatisfactory experiences, I have decided to shift my focus to sending out resumes via mail for my next phase of job hunting (I’m not yet confident enough to directly call for job opportunities).

However, a major challenge in sending out resumes via mail is figuring out how to write an effective cover letter.

Why Use Firefox

It’s okay if a man’s first time was with IE; you still have to fall in love.

In fact, many people have carelessly lost their first time and become hopelessly addicted, so there’s no need to worry too much about it.

The beautiful and sexy Opera obviously brings you the sweetest memories of youth, but unfortunately, the gorgeous Opera cannot satisfy all your needs. Her overly conservative nature even sets a series of strict conditions, hoping you will grow old under her rules.

Issues Arising from Missing System Language Encoding and Related Thoughts

In the afternoon, a classmate called me, saying that his computer had a serious problem.

The symptoms are described as follows:

  1. When opening Baidu, Sina, NetEase, Tencent, and other pages in the browser, all display garbled characters;
  2. Under the browser’s View -> Encoding options, only “Left to Right Document” and “Right to Left Document” are available, with various encodings like UTF-8 and GBK missing;
  3. After opening QQ, only two input boxes and selection boxes are visible, and no text is displayed on the entire QQ interface after logging in;
  4. The omnipotent Firefox works normally, with no garbled characters on any websites.

Upon receiving the computer, my first thought was that the encoding files were missing. Since I had no prior experience with such issues, I first checked the language tools in the Control Panel to see if there were any related options or switches, but found nothing.
