A Flowing Account of a Trip to Jiangsu

After a night’s stay at a 7 Days Inn in Shanghai, we set off from the Shanghai Bus Terminal to Jiangsu. Even before boarding the bus, my body started to protest, but my heart was still eager to attend the wedding. My friend’s family is in Rugao, Nantong, and I had promised to visit them many years ago. Today, that promise was finally fulfilled.

It was a sunny day, the first long trip of 2014, with someone accompanying and taking care of me all the way, and we were going to attend a good friend’s wedding… These small elements were enough to be sources of happiness. The bus steadily drove along the broad road towards our destination. Sitting by the window, I calmly pulled open the curtain and did what one does on long journeys—slept. Although my phone, iPad, and music player were in my bag, I chose to conserve my energy, hoping to meet the family I had only been in touch with for seven years in a refreshed and radiant state.

Three Services Work During the Rural Assignment

In early October of this year, in accordance with the municipal Party committee’s deployment of the Party’s mass line education and practice activities, I, along with hundreds of leading cadres and staff from various municipal institutions, were dispersed to designated villages across the city’s townships to carry out a three-month “Three Services” initiative aimed at serving the grassroots, the frontlines, and the masses. I was assigned to ** Village in ** Town, responsible for the work in two village groups, ** and **. Below is a summary of my personal work during this period:

Drafting a Civil Retrial Application

Initially, when this petitioner came to request mediation of his relationship with the contractor, we advised him to file a lawsuit in court. However, after losing the case in the first instance due to various reasons, he continued to petition. Reluctantly, we helped him draft an appeal for the second instance, but he lost again.

Now, he intends to continue petitioning, and we have no choice but to help him draft a retrial application. Although we know it may not be of much use, this is all we can do for now. This case is complicated by many unexpected factors involving a lack of legal knowledge, and the lawyer may not have done his best to gather evidence, leading to the current situation. It’s really not easy.

Belated Experience of Passing the Judicial Examination

This so-called experience was posted on a judicial examination forum. At the time, I didn’t think much about it and just wrote freely, mainly in response to the numerous unreliable advertisements for various judicial examination training schools on the forum. The content might be a bit rough on the eyes, but it’s all practical advice. The final result was quite satisfactory, scoring several dozen points higher than expected, which made up for failing the previous two attempts.

Criminal Law of the Taiwan Province

I remember a professor of criminal law once said that the criminal law of mainland China, although one of the more unique criminal laws in the world, is also one of the most difficult to learn. The system is mixed, the charges are chaotic, the language is verbose, the semantic accuracy is insufficient, and the penalties are excessively harsh, among other factors, making the compilation of several criminal laws in mainland China less than satisfactory.

Work Plan for Creating a “Safe Campus”

I. Guiding Principles

Guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory and the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and based on the relevant directives from higher authorities on safety, we firmly uphold the principle of “life first, safety foremost.” We adhere to the policy of “prevention first, addressing both symptoms and root causes,” prioritizing safety management as the primary task of the school. Focusing on protecting lives and preventing student injuries, we emphasize the prevention of food poisoning, school building fires, stampedes, violent assaults, group illnesses, and self-harm caused by psychological barriers. We will strengthen infrastructure construction and basic management, intensify efforts to rectify safety hazards and work styles, and actively carry out the “Safe Campus” creation activities under the theme of “construction, implementation, and emergency response.” We will strive to minimize general accidents, ensure long-term campus safety, and create a secure, peaceful, and harmonious working and learning environment for all teachers and students, continuously advancing the school’s safety work.
