An Ordinary Year of 2015

From 2007 to now, this year might be the one with the least writing. I flipped through the backend article list and found that there have been no updates since April 22. Fortunately, there were 11 posts before April 22. Adding this one, it makes a total of 12, averaging more than one per month.

From 2007 to the present, a few impactful events have occurred each year, and this year seems to follow that pattern.

  1. Settling Down. Bought a house and moved my wife’s household registration here. It’s preliminarily estimated that in the next few years, we won’t be moving around or changing jobs and places frequently, and it’s likely we won’t move again. There will be no more regrets; everything will follow fate. Actually, I feel that this place is quite nice—fewer people, not too many troubles, and decent benefits, making it suitable for living.

  2. Preparing for a Child. Started preparing the day after the two-child policy was announced, hoping to see results next year. In the coming years, there will be a surge in second children born to government, state-owned enterprise, and public institution employees, who already occupy a significant portion of social resources. It’s uncertain what the situation will be like when they all compete for school placements.

  3. Getting a Driver’s License. Since enrolling in March, I’m still waiting in line to schedule the third subject test. It’s estimated that I won’t get my license until at least May or June next year. But coincidentally, I don’t have the money to buy a car now, so getting the license a bit later might just be perfect timing.

  4. Traveled to Many Places. This year’s income wasn’t as tight as before, so I traveled more. I visited Yunnan, Guangxi, Liaoning, Jiangxi, and Sichuan, not to mention frequent weekend trips between Hunan and Guangdong. Overall, I dealt with long-distance travel almost every month.

  5. Re-entering Photography. After losing interest in 2013, I basically gave up on cameras. But this autumn, on a whim, I plunged into the full-frame camera pit, spending quite a bit of money. It’s mainly a mindset issue; every time I went out to take photos with my phone or a mirrorless camera, I couldn’t get over the psychological barrier. A DSLR seems to give me a confidence boost.

  6. Almost Quit PC Games. I once thought I could never quit PC games, but unexpectedly, since moving to the new house, despite spending a lot on various desks, chairs, and hardware, I’ve only started the desktop computer once, and that was to find a file. I haven’t touched any games for even a minute. Most of my time has shifted to the living room.

  7. Re-entered Console Gaming. After selling my last 3DS in early 2014, I’ve always regretted it, as I had many games unfinished. This year, taking advantage of a discount on JD.com, I bought an Xbox One, falling into the national version pit. I’ve bought 15 games in total but only finished two, and it’s mostly gathering dust.

  8. Bought Many Books. This year might be the one with the most books bought and the least read since I can remember. I bought over 200 books on JD.com, but unfortunately, I haven’t finished a single one. I’m gradually overcoming the difficulties, trying to read a little every day. Additionally, the magazines I’ve subscribed to for several years have been mostly untouched this year, which feels like a waste.

  9. First Family Visit. In the nine years since coming to Guangdong for study and work, this is the first time I’ve had family come to visit, marking an important milestone in starting a new life.

End

  1. I thought 2015 would end on its last day, but fate had other plans. On the evening of the last day, I received the news of my grandfather’s passing, which was particularly regrettable and saddening.
