When awake, it’s almost impossible to recall the dreams from days before yesterday. Only in the subconscious do we get a chance to remember that “a certain dream once had” indeed occurred.
Previously, I always believed that memories while awake were the most reliable, because upon waking, I could often reconstruct a part of the dream I just had. Moreover, frequently, my dreams could be interrupted and then continued: for example, the time I could remember entering the dream was usually after four or five in the morning, and around seven, I would often be interrupted by my phone alarm. After turning off the phone (in a state of incomplete wakefulness, but able to see the exact time and clearly know whether I should get up at that time), I could continue the unfinished dream.
Last night’s dream spanned a wide range, and now I roughly record the process:
- Not sure how I entered the dream.
- I brought a female middle school classmate home (no matter how I try, I can’t figure out why my subconscious chose her as the target).
- Grandparents’ reception.
- Took her back to university.
- The location seemed to be confused, and I’ve already forgotten what happened in the middle.
- I appeared at a family memorial ceremony.
- Various memorial processes.
- Two horses/sheep came galloping from afar.
- Everyone seemed to understand that the purpose of the ceremony was to call back these two horses/sheep (I never knew whether they were horses or sheep, but in the dream, they seemed more like horses).
- They galloped to the position of the ancestral longevity vessel in the mourning hall when my father passed away (in the dream, I knew for sure that my father had been dead for a long time, and I was certain that the two galloping in were related to something like “soul return”).
- I climbed into that small space—> talked to my father (horse/sheep), explaining the content of the matter, which was consistent with my current real-life situation, and my father also instructed some bizarre things, such as which items should be used during the memorial and which were useless, but now I can hardly remember them.
- I don’t know how this dream ended.
In dreams, the transitions are often hard to recall. As for the part of the dream where my father transformed into a horse-like or sheep-like animal to come back and talk to me, I still don’t fully understand it. There might indeed be some signs, so I need to record it first for future study. As for the bizarre things my father instructed me, I will need to slowly recall them to make them clearer.
