Why does time always seem to be in short supply lately?
When I want to play games, I find that the campus network is about to be cut off. When I want to read, I realize my eyelids can barely stay open. When I want to eat, I discover the west gate of the school is already closed. And when I want to write a blog post, I can’t seem to find the right direction.
It’s been a long time since I last wrote an article, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten about it. It’s just that some recent thoughts are hard to form into complete text.
Lately, I’ve been tinkering with a lot of Twitter applications like Rmbr, Embr, Dabr, Twitese, and so on. After all that effort, I realized that these things are pretty much meaningless. The simplest method is still to climb the ladder and access twitter.com directly.
I’ve also experimented with several ladder-climbing methods that I was too lazy to try before. All things considered, GAE seems to be the most convenient way. Except for its shortcomings with HTTPS, it’s pretty much on par with my other paid SSH. Since my VPS also has to handle mobile ladder-climbing and daily website operations, I can give it a bit of a break in the future.
On mobile, there isn’t a great ladder-climbing solution yet. It’s relatively difficult to achieve full ladder-climbing on a BlackBerry, so I have to rely on Opera Mini or some clients. Currently, I’m focusing on how to use the new version of UCWEB for ladder-climbing. At the same time, to facilitate ladder-climbing with Opera Mini, I set up a relay server on my VPS (surprisingly simple, almost idiot-proof), and the speed is decent.
Additionally, since switching to a BlackBerry with OS 5.0, the shortage of data cables has been a problem. I have at least seven or eight mini USB cables at school, but only one micro USB cable. Since my work often requires taking screenshots or photos from my phone and uploading them, and GPRS data is always a pain, I’m too lazy to go out and buy a data cable. So, I’ve been tinkering with WiFi. After several installations, uninstallations, and firmware flashes, I finally conquered that lousy network card. Now it works well with my phone’s WiFi, so I don’t have to carry a data cable to and from work every day.
Currently, I’ve lost interest in Sina Weibo again. When my work directly involves Sina Weibo, everything about it just seems nauseating. Tencent Weibo, on the other hand, still holds some appeal due to its decent front-end design. I’m trying to shift my focus entirely to Twitter and have re-registered an account. @rpwi, just randomly typed, no special meaning, aiming to keep the ID within four letters. You can think of it as “Ren Pin Wen I” (人品问I).
Recently, I’ve started sending out resumes again, even though I know there’s not much to write on my resume. As I send them out, I fantasize about what it would be like to be in that position… to the point where my dreams at night become completely unfettered.
I’m currently reading “Does God Play Dice?”, “Li Kele’s Anti-Demolition Diary”, “The Cambridge History of the Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber”, and “Out of Control”. The timing is also frustrating—I have to wait until I’m in bed at night, fighting with my eyelids, to ponder whether electrons are really waves, or skip a good nap at noon to see how Li Kele turns into a lunatic. “Out of Control” seems like I’ve been reading it forever, probably at least a month, and I still haven’t finished it… Without continuity, reading becomes quite frustrating.
If I didn’t participate in CS team matches every day, I could probably add two more hours of reading. But reading is physically demanding; if I read for more than four hours at night, I really don’t want to get up in the morning… So, I can only choose to do this during holidays.
If I’m not reading or playing games, I’ll probably end up tinkering with code. Based on past experience, I usually spend at least five or six hours a day on it, but thinking about all these years, it seems like there’s no way out, so I give up.
Work feels relatively easy, but I can’t use that time to read or anything… the environment isn’t right. This time is only suitable for quick information filtering, like Twitter and such.
Damn, my phone and Bambook have at least 300 books listed. At my current rate of two books a week (and with books like “Does God Play Dice?”, even two books a month)… sigh!
No time to eat.
